KMSS seeks to create units in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Nov 19 - The Krishak Mukti Sangram Sammittee (KMSS) is contemplating to constitute sub branches in the city here to strengthen its base in the commercial hub of the district. The district leaders of the KMSS formed a unit in the New Market area here and are looking forward to have more such units in different corners of the city.

Pradip Haloi, publicity secretary of the district unit of the peasant organisation said that KMSS would act as a pressure group to ensure that the authorities of the Municipal Board take corrective measures to protect the town from artificial floods. �The authorities concerned must clean the drainages and improve the sewerage system to drain out rain waters instantly. All corrective measures must be initiated before the monsoon to prevent further waterlogging in the city. �In the event of failure on the part of the authorities, KMSS has said that the Dibrugarh Municipal Board must be prepared to face the KMSS agitation, Haloi threatened.

It may be mentioned here that the city here experienced one of the worst waterlogging recently. The water had entered houses, commercial establishments, offices, educational and health institutions and covered all streets and roads within the municipality for about a week. Educational institutions remained closed for about 10 days.

The KMSS has been enrolling members into their organization from various sections of the society. President Madan Verma, vice president Bikash Haloi and secretary Sahid Khan are a few leaders of the newly formed New Market unit of the KMSS. The New Market area here is one of the most crowded areas of the city.
