KMSS rally against State Budget

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 12 Members of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today took out a torchlight procession between Thekeraguri and Padumoni Aithan in Lakhimpur district against the State Budget, alleging that the Budget has failed to provide anything substantial to the people but welcomed the corporates and the capitalists to the State, said a press release of the Samiti here this evening.

The statement issued by KMSS president Raju Bora, general secretary Akhil Gogoi and publicity secretary Kamal Kumar Medhi, said that the State Government through the Budget, has shown its arrogance to extend cooperation to the executors of the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP).

In general, the Budget has an anti-people character, said the Samiti in its statement, for, besides supporting the mega hydel projects, it has proposed new polytechnics which will be built at the cost of the public exchequer to enrich the builders and the corporates and to be handed over to the private sector later on.

The Budget has not proposed any solution to the problem of erosion which has eaten up around eight per cent of the States landmass, but has made allocation to fatten the wallets of the corrupt contractors of the Water Resources Department, it alleged.

The Samiti warned a series of protest programmes against this pro-mega dam Budget.
