KMSS opposes river linking

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 29 The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) today said that no river water from Assam would be allowed to be transferred to other regions of the country.

In a statement, the KMSS said that on the plea of a Supreme Court directive, the Indian state has decided to transfer water of the Brahmaputra river to other regions of the country, which is disastrous for Assam and other states of the region.

Implementation of this decision would result in serious water and environmental crisis in this region. Hence, the people of the region would resist any step to implement the project. The Government of India, instead of implementing this river linking project and imposing dams on the people of the region, should take serious steps to solve the problems of flood and erosion that have been making life miserable for the people of Assam, the KMSS said.
