KMSS demands release of Kamal Medhi

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 15 The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) on Wednesday demanded the unconditional release of its joint general secretary Kamal Kumar Medhi and justice for the victims of the BTAD violence.

The KMSS staged a protest demonstration on the bank of the Dighalipukhuri, alleging that the government was intentionally delaying the release of Medhi, who is also a budding poet.

On the other hand, the KMSS slammed the government for the proliferation of illegal arms in the BTAD areas. It alleged that the government had patronized the proliferation of illegal arms, that resulted in the recurring mass massacres.

There is no record of the Tarun Gogoi government completing any inquiry that was ordered in connection with the ethnic conflicts or meting out punishment to the perpetrators of mass massacres, said the KMSS, accusing Tarun Gogoi of exploiting such situations of conflicts for political gains.

The KMSS also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Governor through the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro), demanding a time-frame for the NIA inquiry into the BTAD violence, dissolution of the Hagrama Mohilary administration, besides insisting on Army flag march in the BTAD areas from May 16 for a week.
