GUWAHATI, Oct 1 � The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today made an appeal to the State and the Central Government as well to seriously reconsider the underconstruction 2000-MW Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP) at Gerukamukh considering the report that the Myanmar authorities have planned to stop the construction of the Irrawaddy Myitsone Hydel Project.
It further appealed to the Government to abandon all the mega dam projects of the NE region. Referring to the Myanmarese experience, it said that dams would have the same devastating impacts on the country.
Myanmarese President has reportedly said in response to the people�s demand for abandoning the Irrawaddy Project that the wishes of the people should be honoured and their concerns should be taken care of, said the KMSS in a statement.
