KMSS alleges Govt conspiracy in dam talks

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 18 The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has alleged that the Government is hatching a plan in the name of holding dialogue with the anti-mega dam agitators, to complete the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP). This is evident from the repeated claims of the Government that the construction of the LSHEP dam would be completed while the process of dialogue is on.

In a statement here, the KMSS has stated that while the Government is behaving in such an impudent manner, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has also been dismissing the relevance of the report of the States experts on the power project. The power company has also been announcing with impertinence that the construction activities of the project would not be halted even for a day.

The silence maintained by the Government on the NHPC assertions is also indicative of the nexus between the two sides. On top of all these, the Government is trying to silence the agitating people with oppressive measures, alleged the Samiti.

It has also alleged that the Golaghat Police raided the house of its general secretary Akhil Gogoi at Golaghat town yesterday. A police team also raided the residence of his father in-law at Kachugaon. The Officer-in-Charge of the Golaghat Police Station also grilled the principal of the college in which Gogois wife had earlier worked, the Samiti said and demanded an impartial enquiry into these incidents.
