KMSS alleges fund misappropriation

By Correspondent

MORIGAON, Feb 9 The first annual conference of the Morigaon district unit of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) was held at Barapujia with a day-long programme on Sunday.

Addressing the open meeting Akhil Gogoi, secretary, KMSS, criticised the State Government for alleged deep-rooted corruption in every government department.

Talking to newsmen, Akhil Gogoi alleged that a sum of more than Rs 2 crore earmarked for the marginal labourers under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in Jaluguti Gaon Panchayat under the Kopili development block of Morigaon district was misappropriate in a clandestine manner.

Terming the scam as next to the NC Hills scam, Gogoi said an amount of Rs 45.20 lakh, was released to the Jaluguti Gaon Panchayat during the 2009-2010 financial year which was siphoned off by the president and secretary of the gaon panchayat. Gogoi said that the president, secretary and junior engineer of the Jaluguti GP under Kopili Block opened fake pass books in the local post office against some beneficiaries and misappropriated government money showing bogus job cards while the rural, poor workers were quite in the dark about the fraud.

Demanding a CBI probe into the job-cards scam in Kopili Block, Gogoi said that a total of Rs 1,96,03500 was spent on 51 dwelling houses under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) while the poor people are yet to use the same.

Altogether 2,011 bogus job-cards were made by Jaluguti Gaon Panchayat and crores of rupees were misappropriated, Akhil Gogoi added. Though some of the poor-victims submitted an allegation with the DC, Morigaon, there is no action against corrupt panchayat office bearers, Gogoi added.

One Yakub Ali registered a case in Morigaon Judicial Court (U/S 420/406/409) against this massive corruption, he said.
