Kisan Mela concludes at Nalbari

NALBARI, July 5 � The Nalbari Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) under the Assam Agricultural University organised a two day-long Kisan Mela at the KVK campus of Sariahtali in Nalbari district here on July 3 and 4.

The Nalbari Deputy Commissioner, Dr Om Prakash formally inaugurated the mela-cum-exhibition on July 3. In his speech, Dr Om Prakash said that the farmers should carry out the cultivation through a proper soil test to get more production. Stressing on the need of processing foods, the Deputy Commissioner called upon the farmers to produce the agricultural products as per the demands of the market.

The inaugural meeting was presided over by Dr Hemendra Ch Bhattacharya, director research of Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat. Addressing the meeting, Dr Bhattacharya said that the farmers should produce their crops as per the demand of the market, using their own techniques. A year-long planning for a farmer is more essential to dominate the market. However, he added that the farmers themselves should create markets in different places through their unique production. He further stated that to capture the market, the farmers should come forward for producing package foods which will help them to get regenerative prices.

The inaugural meeting was addressed among others by Dr Khem Bahadur Pun, chief scientist of the Rice Research Station of Geruwa near Hajo, Dr Mridul Deka, coordinator of the Nalbari Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Amarjyoti Das, officer in-charge SIRD, Nalbari among others. Earlier, Mayuri Bora, specialist in Home Science subject spoke about the food habit of farmers.
