Kirtinath Hazarika Rachanawali released

GUWAHATI, Dec 30 - The first volume of Kirtinath Hazarika Rachanawali comprising selected editorials written by Kirtinath Hazarika, former Editor of Dainik Asam, was released at a function held in the Kanaklal Baruah Auditorium of Assam State Museum today.

Prof Mridul Hazarika, Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, released the volume in the presence of a distinguished gathering that included Munin Bayan, Executive Editor of Dainik Asam as chief guest.

In his address, Prof Hazarika recalled the contributions of Kirtinath Hazarika, saying that his editorials chronicled some trying times the State had endured and that his writings shone like a beacon in those critical times, providing hope and solace to the masses. �Hazarika was a towering figure among journalists and his writings portrayed a critical period in Assam�s history, and more importantly, showed the correct path during those difficult times,� he added.

Bayan, in his address, said Hazarika with his characteristic straightforwardness and value-based journalism gave a new and powerful dimension to journalism. �He was the Editor of Dainik Asam from 1965 to 1986 and this period was a watershed in the history of Assamese journalism,� he said.

Bayan said the issues raised by Hazarika concerning the State�s problems and solutions were still relevant today.

Senior journalist DN Chakravartty, who is the chief editor of the volume, termed Hazarika as a friend, philosopher and guide for the people of Assam. �He was a dominant background voice of the Assam Movement. The interests of the State and its people were always supreme for him,� he said.

Noted linguist Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya presided over the function which was attended among others by Bhuban Lahkar and Anjan Hazarika.
