Kirip Chaliha quits Cong

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 30 - Former Member of Parliament from Congress Kirip Chaliha today resigned from the primary membership of the party amidst speculation that he might soon be seen in the fold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Chaliha said that the Congress has lost its footing and can no way do justice to the aspirations of the Assamese people.

Chaliha claimed that the Congress party planned the ouster of the Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly when the latter tried to facilitate a consensus on the definition of Assamese.

After submitting his resignation to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta, Chaliha threatened of exposing several senior Congressmen for their involvement in the multi-crore rupee Saradha chit fund scam. He alleged that he is in possession of materials to prove that.

Modi has at least shown the intent to address the core issues, including infiltration, unlike Congress. Moreover, the Congress workers and senior leaders are apprehensive of the partys fate, Chaliha told media persons today.
