Kingpin of human trafficking racket held

MANGALDAI, July 9 - Girls hailing from poor families and illegally trafficked from Assam are sold in Rajasthan for Rs 30,000 each.

This sensational news came to light when a mastermind of an inter-State human trafficking racket confessed before personnel of Kharupetia Police Station in Darrang district during interrogation.

Siddique Ali (32), a resident of Rowta Bagan village in Udalguri district, who was wanted by Kharupetia Police in connection with a human trafficking case registered in the police station, incidentally walked into a police trap at Orang on Tuesday when he was discussing with the poor parents of a teenaged girl about her marriage. Suspecting his intentions, local people caught him and handed him over to police.

On getting information, Kharupetia Police rushed to Orang and took him into their custody in connection with the case of trafficking a girl from Simluguri area under Kharupetia Police Station.

During interrogation, Siddique Ali confessed how he had already trafficked three girls from poor families of the area with false promises of marriages and then with the help of his counterparts in Rajasthan, sold each against a payment of Rs 30,000. His confessional statement has shocked even the investigating cops.
