IMPHAL, May 13 � The killing of two young labourers allegedly by Kuki Revolutionary Front (KRF), an armed group which is currently under Suspension of Operation with the Government, has evoked widespread protests in Patsoi constituency in Imphal West district of Manipur.
Angry villagers of Patsoi, mainly women and youth, staged a sit-in demonstration in Patsoi by blocking the Imphal-Silchar highway since early morning today.
The bodies of the two labourers � M Dayananda (19) of Patsoi Part III village and M Premananda (20) of Haorang Keirel village under Imphal West district � who went missing from their workshed at Mapao Khullen village on Sunday, were recovered near Thingshat village under Saikul Police station in Senapati district on Wednesday, sources said.
The villagers of Patsoi area formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of Dayananda and Premananda following a joint meeting.
According to Patsoi locals, the two young labourers along with a school-going student went missing from their workshed on Sunday. But the class VI student was released while the two labourers were found killed. The reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained.
The bodies which bore bruise marks were recovered by State police commandos and Assam Riflesmen.
Meanwhile, in a pre-dawn operation, a combined security team rounded up eight KRF cadres in connection with the incident.
