Kidnapping racket busted, 2 held

MANGALDAI, Dec 13 - Close on the heels of busting a cyber crime gang, the Darrang Police have managed to foil the attempt of abduction of a local merchant of raw gutkha and bust a racket of professional kidnappers including foreign nationals.

The Darrang Police have nabbed two members of a professional kidnapping gang including one from the neighbouring country of Nepal. According to the police, the Nepal citizen, identified as Nabaraj Sharma, was nabbed on Tuesday night from the residence of one Saidur Rahman of Kharupetia area, where he had been taking shelter for the last couple of days and planning to kidnap the local gutkha trader with the help of other accomplices at Byrnihat, Meghalaya, and Karbi Anglong, and demand a huge ransom for his release.

However, two other members of the gang whom the police have already identified managed to escape. A case was registered in this connection and on Wednesday, Nabaraj Sarma and Saidur Rahman were sent to judicial custody. The police are on the lookout for other members of the gang.
