Khongjom Day programme at Hojai today

GUWAHATI, April 22 - The Manipuri National Council (MNC), Hojai District Committee is going to observe the 126th Khongjom Day on April 23 at Geeta Mandir, Hojai, a press release stated.

The day-long programme will begin with flag hoisting at 8.30 am which will be followed by paying of floral tributes to the martyrs of Khongjom War 1891 and a seminar on the topic �Rights and Movements of Manipuris in Assam�. The seminar will be chaired by Prof W Joykumar Singha of ADP College, Nagaon and the inaugural lecture will be delivered by Dr A Ibemcha, Assistant Professor, Assam University Diphu Campus. Dr Hawaibam Herojit, Dr Aheibam Rishikesh, Dr Seram Anil, Ksh. Singhajit and Dijamani Sarmah will present papers on the relevant issues of the topic. The day-long programme would conclude with the open session which would be presided over by L Biswajit, president, MNC, Hojai District and Colonel Tensu bam Gokul (Retd) will grace it as the chief guest. Eminent scholars N Bidya and W Joybabu will deliver special lectures on the topic of Khongjom War, the release added.
