ITANAGAR, Nov 13 - With Prime Minister Narendra Modis Swachh Bharat Abhiyan gaining momentum across the country, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has called for a Jan Andolan (peoples movement) starting from Gram Panchayat level to urban areas for the cleanliness drive to be carried across the hill State.

Khandu made this appeal while participating in the Mission Clean Kley River at Ziro in Lower Subansiri district today. The mass cleanliness drive of the Kley river was organised by Apatani Youth Association with the theme Be your own scavenger, which was supported by the district administration.

It was participated in by a large number of school children, public, government officials, ITBP jawans and NGOs. The citizens divided themselves into different groups to clean different stretches of the river starting from its source till the end.

The Chief Minister appreciated the youth bodys initiative to clean the Kley river, which he termed as the lifeline of Apatani plateau. Locally made bamboo brooms and devices designed by Narin Ajin Society were used to pick up wastes lying along the river banks. The bamboo devices were designed especially to clean garbage, plastic wastes, etc.

PHE Minister Takam Pario, Parliamentary Secretary for Hydropower Phosum Khimhun, Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Likha Saaya among others joined the drive.
