Kaziranga, Manas opened for tourists

KAZIRANGA, Oct 1 - State Environment and Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma formally declared the new tourist season at the Kaziranga National Park open this morning at the Mihimukh point of the central range of Kohora.

Meanwhile, the Manas National Park was also formally opened for tourists today.

Brahma, speaking at the opening ceremony where Agriculture Minister Atul Bora was also present, hoped that during the new season, tourists would be able to spend a good time at Kaziranga.

Meanwhile, Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta declared the Park open at the western range of Bagori.

The Forest Minister also attended an awareness programme organised by the Eco Development Committee members of the Bohikhuwa Gaon in association with the Forest Department, where she announced that Rs 1 crore would be made available to the Committee for roads and

infrastructure development.

She also announced that from now onwards, if anyone is killed by wild elephants, then Rs 3 lakh would be extended as compensation to the next of the victim�s kin.

Pobitora opened: Meanwhile, the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, too, was formally opened for tourists early this morning, our Morigaon Correspondent reports.
