Kathin Chibar Daan festival held at Digboi

DIGBOI, Nov 10 � The Kathin Chibar Daan Festival was performed with a two-day programme on November 2-3 in the Dharmachakra Buddha Vihar at Golai No.1 of Digboi in a highly austere manner. The presiding Bhikkhu of the festival was Ven. Bodhimoy Thera of the vihar and he was accompanied by Ven. Karuna Shastri, head of International Brotherhood Mission at Dibrugarh, Ven. Kalyan Mitra Mahathera of Tinsukia, Ven. Sumedhananda Mahathera, Ven. Bodhiratna Bhikkhu, Ven. Ananda Bhikkhu and many other reverend bhikkhus from the Buddhist vihars of Tinsukia, Chabua, Digboi, Duliajan, Gangabari etc.

Throughout the night of the November 2, the Kathin Chibar was woven by a group of female devotees � the Inthem Singpho Mahila Sipini Samaj and the weaving was done up in the wee hours of November 3. In the evening, a variety cultural programme based on Buddhism was held in the vihar premises. The programme included Singpho dances, rendering of Buddhist gathas and competitions on quiz, extempore speech and fun-game.

The agenda of November 3 began with the hoisting of the dharmadhwaja by Ven. Bhodimoy Thera followed by felicitation to the assembly of the reverend bhikkhus in the form of offering of flower bouquets. The Panchasheela prayer was conducted by Nidhu Bikash Boruah. The Dhamma Sabha of the day was presided over by Ven. Karuna Shastri and addressed by the reverend bhikkhus and this was followed by the sacred offering of the Kathin Chibar Daan to the reverend Bhikkhus. At mid-day and in the evening, the Mahamaya Buddha Kirtan Sangha chanted kirtanas based on the �Grihatyag� episode of the Buddha�s life.
