GUWAHATI, Sept 29 - Defending champions, the Karnataka State team, arrived here today for their Ranji Trophy Group A lung opener of the season against host Assam.
The four-day match is scheduled to be pleyed at the Assam Cricket Associations Barsapara Stadium here from Thursday. The team preferred to stay back in the hotel rooms after arrival and will have work out tomorrow morning.
The team would definetly miss the service of KL Rahul but the other four batsmen seasoned Robin Utappa, Manish Pandey, Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair would be the tough nuts to crack for the Asam bowlers. Pandey, 26, who has quite an experience in the international level too, is playing his eighth Ranji season. The 24-year-old Agarwal is an aggressive bat who did well for India A in the recently concluded tri-series scoring 377 runs in four innings. Nair, 23, who was included in the Indian Test squad for Sri Lanka, hit an unbeaten century against South Africa A in the recent August tri-series. In the bowling front, rookie pacer Prasidh Krishna and spinner J Suchith hold plenty of promise. Krishna took five wickets on his first-class debut last week.
The team: R Vinay Kumar (Capt), CM Gautam (VC, WK), Robin Utappa, Manish Pandey, Karun Nair, R Samarth, Abhiskek Reddy, Shreyas Gopal, Udit Patel, Abhimanyu Mithun, HS Sharath, J Suchith, Shishir Bhavane, Mayank Agarwal, Pradish M Krishna.
