GUWAHATI, Oct 28 - After losing the openers at the total of four, internationals Robin Uthappa and Karun Nair took the reign and steadied the Karnataka innings and stood firm at the end of the second day of the four-day Group B Ranji Trophy match at the Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.

Karnataka were 223 for two in reply to Assam�s first innings total of 325. Utahppa and Nair were at the crease with 108 each at the end of day�s play.

Assam resumed the first innings at the overnight total of 268 for six and lost the remaining wickets adding 57 runs. Amit Verma remained unbeaten on 166 while Sarupam Purkayastha could add only three runs to his overnight total.

Uthappa took 206 balls and hit 12 boundaries and two sixes while Nair needed 198 deliveries. His knock was studded with 13 hits to the fence.
