Karimganj residents suffer due to illegal parking

By Correspondent

NILAMBAZAR, July 27 The traffic system of the Karimganj town is in a shambles and the residents here are suffering a great deal because of this problem. In the absence of proper parking arrangements, the people are compelled park their vehicles on the roads, thus leading to frequent traffic jams and even accidents. A section of local shopkeepers are also adding to the problem by putting up their stalls on the footpaths.

With the majority of the town roads, except the Karimganj-Sutarkandi National Highway segment, not being very wide, illegal parking of vehicles on the roads has been compounding the traffic woes. Heavy vehicles plying on the main roads are also causing a lot of problems for the road users.

It has been alleged that a nexus among the police, local goons and officials of the Karimganj Municipal Board is responsible for the sorry state of affairs, and there has been no action at all against illegal parking in the busy areas like Chantar Bazar, Purba Bazar, Madan Mohan Road, Bridge Road, Subash Nagar Road, as well as the Assam-Agartala National Highway.

Commercial three-wheelers and four-wheelers are posing the biggest challenge on the Patharkandi Road and Silchar Road, which are important link roads in the district.

Despite the fact that the number of vehicles is increasing day by day, the district administration, the traffic police, and the municipality board have not taken the matter seriously. It seems they have no clue to the problem that is choking this border town.
