Karimganj comfortably placed

GUWAHATI, March 1 � Karimganj are in a comfortable position against Morigaon in the second semifinal of the Plate Group Nuruddin Trophy Senior Inter District Cricket Tournament.

After taking a 34-run first innings lead, Karimganj scored 214 in the second innings and extended their over lead to 248.

Morigaon resumed their first innings at the overnight total of 91 for four and folded up the innings at 140 after batting 46.3 overs.

Requiring 249 for victory in the second innings, Morigaon were 14 for no loss in five overs on the second day of the three-day encounter.

Overnight unbeaten batsman Sahidur Rahman fought singlehandedly with a compact 67 off 100 balls. He stayed at the crease for 118 and hit 11 boundaries. None of the tailenders could offer him support as the last five batsmen even could not reach the double figure. Apart from Sahidur, only two batsmen, Nipjyoti Gohain (14) and Nabajyoti Nath could reach double figure in Morigaon�s first innings.

Off spinner Abdus Salam came out with a four-wicket haul while Vikrant Sehwag and Amitav Das took three and two wickets respectively.

Dipankar Aditya, who scored 50 in the first innings, cracked 160-ball 68 in Karimganj�s second innings. Abdus Salam (41), Siba Rana (38) and Omkar Dutta Choudhury (33) were the other useful contributors for Karimganj in the second innings.

For Morigaon, Pabitra Patar was the most successful bowler with three wickets while Rajmoni Ahmed, Manashjyoti Deka and Deepjyoti Deka took two wickets each.
