Karbis are part of greater Assamese society: Ronghang

DIPHU, May 17 - Domahi 2018, one of the important Karbi traditional festivals, centrally observed its 25th anniversary at Roghunath Teron village in West Karbi Anglong with a three-day programme from May 12. The celebration was organised by So Karbi Jutang Jubat Chingthur Asong.

Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang was the chief guest of the closing day�s event and he inaugurated the cultural night. In his speech before a mammoth gathering, he asserted that Karbis are a part of the grater Assamese society.

�We are a part of the greater Assamese society. So when the rest of the State celebrates Bohagi Utsav, we are not lagging behind in organising the Utsav. Bihu is now a global festival and Karbi traditional events should follow suit,� Ronghang said.

During the three-day festival, traditional dances like Ohori kekan, Samphri kekan, Jakoi kibi kekan, etc., were staged, besides traditional contests on events like Teke chorong kenep, Bapthili ke-ap, etc.
