Karbi community�s bid to boost traditional sports

DIPHU, April 4 - Traditional sports have always been an integral part of Karbi community. The sports have mingled with its daily life, right from hunting to fishing and farming and that sporting sprit dominates the Karbi way of life.

Though several attempts have been made to preserve and propagate the traditional sports by various social and cultural organisations of Karbi Anglong through various representations in number of events, for the first time a scientific approach has been taken to safeguard the sports of the Karbi community which have been prevailing for thousands of years.

The Karbi Traditional Sports� Association (KTSA), a newly constituted social organisation, is organising a workshop on the traditional sports at Rangsina Sarpo Auditorium in Lorulangso locality of Diphu town to mark its opening anniversary on April 9, general secretary of the association Roshan Hanse said. The main objective of the workshop is to make the new generation of the community acquainted with traditional sports, Hanse said.
