By Correspondent

DIPHU, June 24 - Mongal Sing Timung, the president of the Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC), tendered his resignation at the KADCC office here today. Timung submitted his resignation letter in the presence of Congress MP Biren Sing Engti, Premala Beypi, MAC, KAAC, Elish Engtipi, MAC, KAAC, ex-MLA Bidya Sing Engleng and former minister Rupam Sing Ronghang.

Mongal Sing Timung, EM, KAAC, joined the BJP yesterday along with 14 other elected MACs (EMs) and four nominated MACs, including KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang.

However, Biren Sing Engti, MP, claimed that the Congress would come to power again in the council elections next year. He added that the defecting EMs and MACs had made a great mistake as the Congress would win the next Parliamentary as well as KAAC elections.

The Karbi Anglong Congress unit faced a major setback after 18 MACs and EMs of the KAAC joined the BJP. According to reports received here, many Congress leaders and workers are contacting senior BJP leaders to join the saffron party in the district.
