Kamrup Metro admin to take all steps for victims� rehabilitation

GUWAHATI, May 3 - In the aftermath of the fire incident on the SK Bhuyan Road at Ambari here on Tuesday evening, the Kamrup Metro district administration today said that it would take all the necessary measures for the rehabilitation of the affected families.

Adequate arrangements for temporary accommodation of the fire victims have been made in the Assam Textile Institute and at the office of the Directorate of Handloom and Textile, Assam.

Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro Dr M Angamuthu has sanctioned Rs 10,000 each for families whose houses have been damaged in the fire, as immediate relief.

A total of Rs 4.6 lakh has already been sanctioned for the 46 affected families.

After the completion of the damage assessment, full payments to the affected families will be made.

Sufficient quantities of food items, drinking water and medical assistance have been made available by the district administration.

�The administration is taking necessary steps for the children who have lost their study materials during the fire by providing free books and study materials. In this regard, affected families can contact Additional Deputy Commissioners Nabadeep Pathak and Palash Pratim Borah and Circle Officer of Guwahati LN Saharia. Free counseling to the children of the affected families will be provided by the district administration,� said Dr Angamuthu. He added that if any NGO or other social organisations want to help or support the affected families, they can contact the Circle Officer of Guwahati.

Dr Angamuthu has ordered Saharia for a detailed enquiry into the incident and asked him to submit the report within seven days.

Officials added that when the incident took place, the SDRF responded immediately and carried out search and rescue operations and controlled the fire from spreading further.
