GUWAHATI, April 11 - The Kamrup Metro district administration has directed the Circle Officer of Dispur Revenue Circle to lodge an FIR against Icon Academy Trust over the incident of landslide which took place at the Icon English School at Bonda last week in which two persons lost their lives.
�...from the report of Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle, it has been observed that the landslide incident took place at the campus of Icon Academy English School, Chapaidang, Bonda, under Dispur Revenue Circle wherein two persons died on the spot while cutting the hill... it has come into the notice that the school authority was cutting earth without prior permission from competent authority. Several warnings were also issued to the authority not to cut the hill,� said an order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro Dr M Angamuthu.
It added that the report received from the DFO, Kamrup East Division, has stated that the school authority has constructed a wall by cutting earth without any permission.
�Forest Beat Officer, Narengi Range, has submitted an FIR about the incident to the concerned police station and earlier also two FIRs have been submitted by the Beat Officer regarding illegal earth cutting in the said school compound at Panikhaiti Police Outpost. Such haphazard and unscientific illegal earth cutting not only leads to natural disasters like
landslide but also threatens ecological balance.
�As the landslide incident led to loss of life of two persons... direct Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle, to lodge an FIR against Icon Academy Trust immediately. Moreover, the Principal Secretary to the government of Assam, Forest department and Commissioner of Police, Guwahati City, will take disciplinary action against concerned officials of the Forest and Police department for negligence towards their duty with effect to suspension and further disciplinary action,� added the order.
