Kamrup champs in veterans� cricket tourney

TINSUKIA, March 11 - Kamrup team became champion in the 9th Veterans Inter District and Inter Institutional T-20 Cricket Tournament with a thumping eight-wicket victory against host Tinsukia.

In the one-sided final played at the Katchujan Field here today, electing to bat first the Tinsukia team was bundled out for a paltry 93 in 19.4 overs. Sushil Prasad was their lone major scorer with 35 as Souvik Das (3/8) and Bhaskar Jyoti Barman (3/15) wrecked the Tinsukia innings.

Chasing the easy target Kamrup took 17.2 overs to score 96 losing just two wickets. Mukut Kalita remained unbeaten on 45 while Kaushik Ojha added 24.

Mukut Kalita was adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his allround show.

Local MLA Sanjay Kishan and secretary of the Assam Cricket Association, Pradip Buragohain were present in the closing function along with a host of sportspersons and organisers. The champion team was awarded Rs 20,000 while the runners up team walked away with a cash award of Rs 10,000. Bhaskar Jyoti Barman of Kamrup was handed over the best player and best bowler award. Nagendra Singh of Kamrup (best wicket keeper), Bijon Dutta of Tinsukia (best batsman) and Pranjal Dutta of Tinsukia (best fielder) were the individual prize winners.

The tournament was organised by the Tinsukia Chapter of the Veteran Cricket Association of Assam.
