Kamrup admin ready to tackle floods

MIRZA, June 8 � With the incessant rains for the last couple of weeks resulting in the increase in the water-levels in the rivers flowing through the district, the Kamrup district administration is on its toes to deal with the situation that may arise out of the ensuing flood.

The district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Vinod Seshan, convened a meeting at the conference hall of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner recently, to discuss and assess the preparedness of the administration in case of floods. It has taken several important decisions in respect to preparedness of the flood in the district, stated a press release issued by Lucky Biswas, DIPRO, Kamrup.

In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed all the circle officers to prepare an action plan and submit it to the DC office at the earliest. The DC also directed all the department heads in the district like Health, Agriculture, PHE, Soil conservation, Irrigation, Veterinary, etc., to prepare circle-wise plans and submit the same to the district administration for the advance preparedness on the flood, sources said.

The DC further asked all the concerned departments to maintain buffer stock of all the essential commodities. He also directed the Deputy Director of Supply, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Kamrup to maintain a stock of rice, pulses, baby food, salt, sugar and oil and other relief-related materials so that any eventuality arising out of floods could be addressed. Similarly, he asked the Joint Director of Health and Family Welfare Department to maintain sufficient stock of medicines of all kinds. The PHE Department has also been directed for supply of halogen tablets, phenyl, bleaching powder, etc. The DC also directed the Veterinary Department to arrange adequate fodder stock and veterinary medicines.

Official sources said that the Deputy Commissioner also asked the NDRF keep in stock 500-odd tents and use them if required. He also directed all the circle officers to hire boats on government rates and to keep the boats in readiness in each of the revenue circles. He also sought cooperation from the police, SDRF, Army and other paramilitary forces.

The meeting was attended among others by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Bishnu Kamal Bora and Assistant Commissioner Kailash Karthik along with other officers and support staff.
