Kalita blames AGP for dam imbroglio

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 4 Faced with the jolt of the ongoing anti-mega dam agitation in the State, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhubaneswar Kalita today alleged that it was due to the wrongs committed by the Asom Gana Prishad (AGP) Government in the State that the State is now facing the present impasse over the river dam projects. The people of the State have now become apprehensive of the river dams because of the wrongs committed by the AGP Government, Kalita said.

An APCC statement said, quoting Kalita, that had the AGP Government remained alert to the negative impact of the river dam projects, todays impasse would not have arisen. The AGP Government had advocated for dams on the Subansiri and the Dihang

rivers.

But the AGP has not been able to muster courage to admit this wrong it had committed. Instead the party has now been adopting an evasive approach towards the issue.

On the other hand, Kalita said the Congress has not been resorting to any histrionics on the river dam issue as alleged by the AGP. The Congress has made an appeal to the Central Government to set up a high-power expert committee to examine the issue.
