Kalaguru�s works partially translated into English

TEZPUR, Oct 5 � The Tezpur University has completed the first part of translation of the works of Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha into English. Presenting the volume to the family of the �Kalaguru� at a modest function organised in the Council Hall of the University on September 29 last, Vice-Chancellor Prof Mihir K Chaudhuri stated that translating the writings of a multifaceted genius like Bishnuprasad Rabha was not an easy task. It was for this reason that the translators took around three years for the present volume which mainly consist of Rabha�s literary works including his fiction, lyrics, poems and songs. The second part of the project that consists of the historical and political writings of the cultural icon is already half-way done and it will be completed by March 2015.

It is mentionable that a group of experts comprising Prof Madan Mohan Sharma, Dr Debarshi Prasad Nath, Dr Gautam Bora and Prof Pradipjyoti Mahanta are in the editorial committee while Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University is guiding the project under the patronage of the Vice-Chancellor Prof Chaudhuri.

On behalf of the Kalaguru�s family, his two sons Prithiraj Rabha and Hemraj Rabha received the translated manuscript and both of them described the work as a rare feat of achievement as this realises their long cherished dream. Thanking the authorities of Tezpur University for taking up the project, they said that it would now take the ideals of Bishnuprasad Rabha to various parts of the world.

Speaking on the occasion, eminent physician and social worker, Dr Lakhsmi Goswami lauded the efforts of Tezpur University for cultivating and propagating the treasures of Assamese literature, particularly for translating the works of Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha into English which will take the thoughts of this great son of Assam to the international forum.
