TIHU, Dec 18 - The people of Kaithalkuchi, Nakerbari, Bali, Haribhanga and Makhibaha villages have expressed grave concern over the dilapidated condition of the Kaithalkuchi-Haribhanga-Makhibaha PWD road.
The 6-kilometre-long road has been in such a shabby state that pedestrians and school students find it difficult to travel on during the day time not to speak of night travel. There are several potholes on many parts of the road and vehicles have to ply very cautiously for fear of accidents.
It may be mentioned here that this road which is considered as a backbone of nearby villages, was damaged by Marapagaldia river flood two years back. Since then, this road has not been repaired by the PWD. The area is thickly populated and there are a number of schools, hospitals, temples and a big market. This road also touches the famous Sri Sri Koliya Gosai Mandir of Haribhanga and Sri Sri Kalimandir of Bali. People from all walks of life use this road daily and have to go to Nalbari, Tihu and Guwahati for various purposes by this road.
People allege that the road has not been renovated since a long time and the authority has not yet taken any step to improve its condition. The local MLAs of Barama and Patacharkuchi have also not taken up any steps to get this important road repaired, people alleged. Therefore, the people of the entire area have urged the authority concerned to repair this road without further delay. Otherwise they will be forced to take up an agitational path in the near future. It may also be mentioned here that the Tihu-Sialmari Akhra road is also in a pitiable condition.
