KAAC holds kisan mela

DIPHU, July 13 � With a view to enlightening farmers on modern agrotechnology, kisan melas are being organised simultaneously at different places by the Department of Agriculture, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). The KAAC Agriculture Department has been promoting research and extension of new farming technologies and has decided to make the annual farmers� fairs bigger this year.

The Agriculture Department invited farmers and stakeholders to participate in a two-day agricultural training programme and Agrotech Kisan Mela organised at Rajapathar under the Diphu Legislative Assembly Constituency. During the programme, farmers were given training on the modern technology for growing agricultural and horticultural crops. Besides, women farmers were also given training on fruit and vegetable preservation.

At the closing ceremony, an open meeting was organised here on Friday in which Bidya Sing Engleng, Parliamentary Secretary, Government of Assam, Sum Ronghang of the Hills Planning Board, Assam, Mongal Sing Timung, EM in-charge of the Agriculture Department, KAAC, Mahesh Kumar Chouhan, Deputy Chairman, KAAC and Ashok Teron, EM, KAAC were present. Various government schemes for farmers were elaborated by M Rajbongshi, District Agricultural Officer, KAAC.

Earlier, taking part in the Agrotech Kisan Mela, dignitaries highlighted various agricultural development schemes and urged all sections of farmers to cooperate with the Government. Hundreds of farmers were given agricultural machinery, tools and kits free of cost.
