KAAC gives aid to ailing Rongbong Terang

DIPHU, March 20 - A cheque of Rs 1 lakh was given to Padma Shri Prof Rongbong Terang, former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha at his residence by the CEM of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang for his treatment. The special assistance was made as per assertion of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. CEM Ronghang later told the media that earlier an amount of Rs 1.50 lakh was given for this purpose.

At the time of handing over the cheque, the CEM was accompanied by the MLA of Howraghat Joyram Engleng, Deputy Chairman of the Council Ritesh Enghi, Executive Member Prodeep Rongpi and Amarsing Tisso. Tuliram Ronghang assured that a small library structure for preserving the books and collection of Professor Terang will be made by the council to facilitate research students . It may be stated that the well-known scholar who was also the principal of Diphu Government College is in poor health for quite a long time and is undergoing medical treatment.

Training prog on HR: A one-day training programme on human rights was conducted at Langsomepi Development Block office, Bakalia by the National Human Rights Commission in association with the Karbi Anglong district administration here on Saturday.

Resource person John Phangcho, joint convener of the Karbi Human Rights Watch narrated before the participants the history of human rights and its revolution and impact on human society. KHRW publicity secretary Watson Hanse explained the meaning, nature, concepts, principals and assorted methods for addressing issues related to human right violation.

The one-day training programme is part of the ongoing programme undertaken by the National Human Rights Commission to generate awareness and uphold human rights across the country. Earlier on March 16, a similar programme was organized at Lumbajong Development Block.
