Jyotirupa drama awards presented

GUWAHATI, Feb 13 � Rangalay of Puranigudam (Nagaon) emerged as the best team for its play Saru Chor Bar Chor while Bhabesh Kalita of Sankar Natya Gosthi, Kharghuli (Guwahati) was adjudged the best director in the 32nd Jyotirupa North-East One Act Play Competition.

The winners were formally awarded at a function at the Ravindra Bhavan this evening.

Bhabesh Kalita also walked away with the honour for the best playwright, while Basanta Kumar of Ekyatan of Palasbari was the second best director.

The awards for best actor and best actress were bagged by Mrinal Kumar Bora of Rangalay, and Sikismita Das of Batsora Natya Gosthi, Bihaguri respectively.

Sankar Natya Sangha of Kharghuli (Guwahati) was the second best team for its play Domoja followed by Batsora Natya Gosthi of Bihaguri in the third position for its play Jirangat Eta Aparahna.

Other winners in different categories included Kishore Nath of Batsora Natya Gosthi for best comedian, Trishna Das of Manchadeep (Guwahati) for the best child artiste, Kalyan Jyoti Bora of Sundaram (Nagaon) for the second best actor, Kasturi of Sankar Natya Gosthi for the second best actress, Kuhipat Sishu Sadan of Dhekiajuli for the best disciplined team, and Paresh Das for the judges� special award.

Nivedita Das was declared the best mono actor.

Veteran actor Dinesh Das was accorded a special felicitation on the occasion.

The competition started on February 10 with participation from 17 teams. Eminent artiste Ratna Ojah formally inaugurated the event.

Today�s prize-distribution ceremony was followed by a cultural evening. Earlier today, a seminar on drama was held which was chaired by Dr Shyamaprasad Sarma.
