Justice Kar to probe Dispur clashes

GUWAHATI, July 14 � The Government of Assam has constituted an one-man inquiry commission headed by Justice (Retd.) SK Kar, Retd. Judge of Gauhati High Court, Guwahati, to inquire into the circumstances leading to the killing of three persons and injuries to several persons and loss of properties during the agitational programme led by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) at Lastgate area of Dispur under Dispur Police station of Kamrup (Metro) district on June 22. This was stated in a press release issued by Janasanyog.

The terms of reference of inquiry shall be to ascertain the circumstances leading to the killing of the three persons, and injuries to several persons and loss of properties at Lastgate area of Dispur on June 22, to examine whether the police action including firing that took place in Dispur on that day was justified, to ascertain if any person(s) and/or organization(s) are responsible for the violence and arson and damage to public property, to determine whether there were any lapses on the part of any authority and if so to fix the responsibility accordingly, to suggest measures so that such incidents do not occur in future and any other matter which is relevant to the incident as may be decided by the Commission. The inquiry report is to be submitted within three months from the date of this order.
