Jumbo havoc at Bholaguri TE

By Correspondent

HALEM, Nov 9 Fear psychosis among the people is increasing day by day at the western side of Gahpur subdivision in Sonitpur district as a herd of wild elephants has come to the area and is demolishing ripe paddy fields and dwelling houses, specially at Bholaguri TE and villages like Magani, Balijan etc.

The tea garden where Jyoti Prasad Agarwala produced the first Assamese film Joymati ought to have been kept under tight security and should have been preserved as a cultural centre but it has been left at the mercy of wild elephants.

All attempts by the administration to stop damage by wild elephants has failed which has irked the tea workers and people of surrounding villages. A few persons have also been killed by the elephants and the people were compelled to block the national highway No. 52 recently to protest against the menace. However, the SDO(C), R Dutta assured to take prompt action in this respect. The SDPO also pacified the people and said action will be taken in this regard.
