Jumbo destroys houses at Boko village

By A Correspondent

BOKO, Dec 27 - An elephant destroyed seven houses and paddy stored at homes at Mouman village near Boko on Friday night creating a reign of terror. Though the Forest Department personnel fired blank shots to chase the elephant away, but part of the village had already been ruined by the elephant by then.

Nearly a month ago, another elephant had killed a man from same village leaving another one seriously injured. Till now, the seriously injured person is admitted to the GMCH, but the administration has not arranged any medical treatment or compensation for him.

Irate villagers told this correspondent, you cannot say that there is a government or a Forest Department. In the name of a Government, there are politicians, whose only job is to beg for votes by giving false promises. The Forest Department is there only to help smugglers, destroy the forests. We have complained many times against the ranger at Boko for his inefficiency, but the senior officials have failed to take any action against him.
