Judicial custody for Rani TE planter

GUWAHATI, March 23 � The prime accused in the killing of a youth in Rani Tea Estate yesterday, Mridul Kumar Bhattacharya, was today produced in the CJM Court, which remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days, police stated.

The gun used in the shooting that killed Pradip Murari and injured three others has been seized by the police who charged Bhattacharya under Sections 302, 307, 325, 326, 354 of IPC and 30 of the Arms Act.

According to the police, the tea estate management has also registered an FIR which mentioned arson and rioting by a mob.

Severe destruction has been caused to the assets of the estate, but the precise extent of property loss is yet to be ascertained. The police have started questioning a few people who indulged in arson and would intensify their efforts in the next few days.
