Judicial custody for 2 arrested police officials

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Dec 7 - The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup (Metro) today remanded Pranab Kumar Deka and Abdul Motlif Choudhury, the two police officials arrested in connection with the Jogdal murder case on Monday, to judicial custody.

Both Deka and Choudhury were charged for destroying the evidence in their capacities as the officer-in-charge of Sonapur police station and the investigating officer respectively of the Jogal murder case in which six members of a family were murdered in cold blood.

Sources informed that sufficient evidence have been found against the duo for not discharging their duties.

We are trying to reconnect the dots although a substantial period of time has elapsed since the murder took place, sources in the CID said.

Asked why police custody was not sought in such a high-profile case, investigators reasoned stating that all necessary statements have already been recorded from the duo to prove the case against them.

The duo is facing charges under Section 120 B, 436 and 210 of the IPC.
