Joy Ram Engleng leads race for KAAC CEM

By Correspondent

DIPHU, Jan 16 Joyram Engleng, the sitting Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) who was re-elected in the 11th KAAC election, is expected to retain the post this time too.

Engleng was elected for the third time in a row, from his home constituency Duar Amola under Hamren subdivision of west Karbi Anglong. He trounced Pator Phangcho of ASDC, but this time he had contested as an independent candidate supported by PAPA.

Englengs closest contender is Bhubon Ch Terang, brother-in-law of sitting MP Biren Sing Engti and son of Joy Sing Doloi, ex-CEM of KAAC. A powerful lobby within the Congress is pushing his name to the fore.

Bhubon Ch Terang won from Socheng Dhenta for the second time. He served as executive member KAAC holding portfolios like health and family welfare and some minor departments.

Terangs contribution towards Karbi literature is immense. Due to his patronage the annual meet of the Karbi Lamate Amey could be held in a grand manner in his constituency.

This time Congress will face tough opposition on the floor of the House. Also, factional rivalry within the party is very much in the offing. An experienced person with composed intelligence is needed to handle the stormy situation ahead.
