GUWAHATI, Sept 24 - Scribes in the city staged a demonstration in front of the Guwahati Press Club on Friday, protesting the barbaric killing of Shantanu Bhowmik, a Tripura-based television journalist. The demonstration was organised by the North-East Union of Working Journalists. Before the demonstration, the journalists gathered on the Guwahati Press Club premises under the leadership of Joykanta Sarma who is the president of the North-East Union of Working Journalists.
In a statement, Sarma expressed his serious concern over the frequent killings of journalists across the country and hoped that the government will take steps for the protection of scribes who often become the targets of anti-social elements, stated a press release.
The Union has also demanded an enquiry by the Tripura government into the dastardly killing of Bhowmik.
