GUWAHATI, Jan 25 - Senior journalist and former editor of Dainik Asam, Dainik Janambhumi and Ajir Batori, DN Chakravartty has been chosen for the Republic Day Journalism Award-2019. The award will be formally conferred on him at the central 70th Republic Day function at Khanapara tomorrow by Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
The award comes in recognition of the veteran journalist�s long association with journalism during which he made significant contribution to the State�s social life.
�Honouring his lifelong contribution through journalism towards leading the society on the right path, the Government of Assam has conferred this year�s Republic Day Journalism Award on Sri Chakravartty,� an official release said.
The award which would be presented under the aegis of the Department of Information and Public Relations, comprises Rs 1 lakh, a citation, a memento, a sarai, a jaapi and an angabastra.
Earlier, the award was presented to senior journalists the late Radhika Mohan Bhagawati and Kanaksen Deka. Chakravartty has edited over a dozen newspapers.
