Jorhat to host AITA U-14 tourney

JORHAT, Aug 16 - Preparations are on at the Jorhat Tennis Club to conduct the AITA National Series Tennis Championship for Boys and Girls U-14 years group, under the All Assam Tennis Association from August 21 to 26. The qualifying rounds will be held on August 19 and 20. The tournament will be held under the supervision of ITF White Badge Official Somnath Manna who has been appointed as the referee of the event.

The boys singles will have a draw of 64, of which 56 will get direct entry based on their rankings while eight will come through the qualifying rounds. The girls singles will have a draw of 48 of which 40 will get direct entry and eight will come through the qualifying rounds. There will be no wild cards provided in the singles main draw of this event. Leading players in this age group from different parts of the country will be participating in this National Sporting Event.

The top four seeds are: (Boys) Udit Gogoi (AS), Aman Dahiya ( HR), Chirag Duhan (HR), Dhanya K. Shah (GJ). (Girls) Sanjana Sirimalla (TS), Mekhela Manna (WB), Yana Dhamija (HR), Sweta Samanta (WB).

The players from Assam who are in the main draw are � Kritanta Sarma (5), Anchit Gogoi, Aditya Pratim Bhagawati, Arunesh Bora and Andy Thaosen in the boys section while the girls section features Kristi Boro (7), Ishika Chakma (11), Justina Borgohain, Tanishqa Patar, Harshita Bora and Kalpita Rajkhowa.

In the qualifying rounds, there are 34 boys and 13 girls from Assam and the Northeastern States who will participate, stated a release issued by the All Assam Tennis Association president Raktim Saikia.
