JORHAT, Nov 12 - With an aim to include the people of Jorhat to carry forward Dr Bhupen Hazarika�s vision, his son Tej Hazarika-led Dr Bhupen Hazarika Foundation�s Jorhat chapter has been launched here today.
The office-bearers of the foundation here are Bibhu Charan Baruah, president Prasanta Bordoloi, executive president Ranjan Kumar Dutta, secretary Jayanta Nath, cultural secretary, while the advisers are Tej Hazarika, Dilip Kumar Datta and NM Rofique.
Focussing on the humanitarian values of the maestro�s contributions, Tez said he had envisaged was a unified stream where everyone is participating in upholding and propagating Bhupen Hazarika�s legacy.
�The centre of focus of my father was always people and his philosophy to integrate all classes and people was a stupendous feat. This is the message the foundation was take through people with different orientations,� said Tej.
�In none of my father�s works have I found him to discriminate against any tribe, culture, caste or religion. He had a rare inclusivity which should be taken to the grassroot level and beyond borders,� he said.
Dipankar Hazarika, secretary of the Guwahati branch, said that the body of work which the foundation would do should be able to influence generations to come on Bhupen Hazarika�s humanitarian ideals. He said that Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had narrated many tales about the singer. �There are many like him who may not be litterateurs but have anecdotes to tell about Hazarika. All these will also be compiled and published,� he said.
The foundation will also develop green businesses, such as handicrafts, eco-tourism, organic food byproducts of natural resources. Moreover, an International Bhupen Hazarika Foundation would also be opened in its global outreach programme which would highlight Bhupen Hazarika in various ways. Research, creation of an online repository on Bhupen Hazarika�s life and creations would be among the other works of the foundation.
