Joint team visits Arunachal for study of Gai

SILAPATHAR, Oct 11 � A joint team from Dhemaji district, including officials of the district administration, water resource department, forest department, rural development, district disaster management authority and Dhemaji district journalists� association etc visited the Siji, Aalo, Basar, Bame, Tirbin, Tai, Garo, Ego of West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on October 7 and 8 for geographical study of Gai river and to discuss the devastation caused by the Gai river with Deputy Commissioner of West Siang district.

The Gai river has become a curse for the people of Dhemaji district. The people of the district have been facing large-scale devastation by the Gai river. The Gai river affected more than 40,000 population of Sissi revenue block. Several hundreds of people have become homeless and helpless on August 15.

The breached section of NH-52 by Gai river has been giving trouble to the people of Dhemaji district and West Siang, East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji, MS Manivannan decided to send a team for geographical study of Gai river and to collect data from sources.

Accordingly a joint team went to the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, which was led by Unnat Kumar Baruah, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dhemaji district.

The team was joined by Ashiwini Duwarah, secretary Dhemaji district journalists association, along with Dilip Hazarika, Gunadhar Doley, Charan Jimey, Loviram Bori, Junti Sonowal, Bhaskar Sabhapandit etc and other officials of the district.

Non-cooperation of West Siang DC: The joint team including 27 members got full co-operation of public of Siji, Garo, Basar, Tirbin of West Siang District but the team failed to meet the DC of West Siang district in Aalo (district headquarter of West Siang) due to non-cooperation meted out by the DC.

Moreover, the joint team had seen banner, poster against DC of West Siang, Amjad Tak. The public of district observed 24 hour district bandh on October 10 in protest against the irregularities committed by the deputy commissioner of West Siang.
