NEW DELHI, April 10 - Aimed at addressing administrative and technological challenges in disaster management, JNU is conducting a three-day workshop in Manipur to train the civil society in dealing with earthquakes and landslides.
The workshop titled �Earthquakes and Landslides: Addressing Administrative and Technological Challenges in Building Community Resilience� is being organised by JNU in association with Manipur University and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
�The initiative seeks to create community partnerships to be realised in association with administrators (State disaster management authority, representatives from Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura), civil society organisations, academicians, experts, to discover spaces for differently abled, old and other vulnerable communities, also providing a platform for the women to come up with indigenous ideas in protecting their neighbourhood in crisis,� Bhupinder Zutshi, Co-cordinator of the conference said.
Among the modules that will be covered during the workshop include law and governance in relation to the Disaster Management Act 2005, livelihood and agriculture, GIS technology and meteorology; vulnerable communities and basic services management.
The workshop was inaugurated on Saturday in Imphal by Manipur Labour Minister Hemo Chandra Singh and Lok Sabha MP Thokchom Meinya Singh. � PTI
