Jharkhand in command against Assam

GUWAHATI, Dec 18 - Hosts Jharkhand took a commendable 235-run first innings lead with two wickets in hand against Assam in their Elite Group C Ranji Trophy match.

On the second day of the four-day match at the JSCA International Sports Complex in Ranchi today, in reply to Assam�s fist innings score of 162, Jharkhand were 397 for eight at stumps.

Riding on a solid opening wicket partnership of 117 between Kumar Deobrat (44) and Nazim Siddiqui the host team went on hammering the Assam bowlers. Siddiqui cracked 173 off 217 deliveries and his delightful knock was studded with 22 boundaries and a six. Apart from the openers, one down batsman Utkarsh Singh added 58. He and Nazim added 122 runs for the second wicket partnership which gave solidity to their innings.

Assam skipper Sib Sankar Roy today used as many as nine bowlers but failed to restrict the opponent batsmen as apart from in-form batsmen Ishank Jaggi (1) and skipper Saurabh Tiwary (16) others provided useful contributions to their total. Arup Das and Mukhtar Hussain chipped in with two wickets each while Roshan Alam, Sidhant Sarma and Riyan Parag claimed one each.
