GUWAHATI, Sept 15 - Socio-cultural organisation Swaranjali will celebrate popular singer Jayanta Hazarika�s birth anniversary in association with the State Directorate of Cultural Affairs, at Rabindra Bhawan here on September 20 with a colourful cultural programme.
The organisation has been celebrating the occasion for the past five years.
Several veteran and young artistes of the State will pay musical tributes to Jayanta Hazarika. Several other programmes, including felicitation of eminent artistes, have been lined up for the occasion. The cultural programme is scheduled to begin at 6.30 pm.
In keeping with the occasion, a prize money competition based on Jayanta Hazarika�s songs is being organised on September 20 from 9.30 am at the same venue.
The competition, divided into two segments, includes children below 15 years in the first segment and competitors above 15 years in the second segment.
The organisers, in a statement, said that for the first segment, any song of Jayanta Hazarika presented properly by the children would be accepted for the competition, whereas for the second segment six songs have been selected and the contestants would have to present any one song selected through lottery.
�The candidates would be given a second chance, but in such a case, the song selected in the first chance cannot be presented,� added the statement.
The songs selected for the second segment of the competition include Apon hate ghar bhangili, Aglati kalapat lare ki sare, Mor naam Aniruddha, Dekha nai, Krishnachura krishnachura and Jadi jibone kande.
The singers will have to perform with musicians provided by Swaranjali, added the statement.
