Jan Andolan campaign on COVID-19 launched in Sikkim

GANGTOK, Oct 8 - In sync with the Jan Andolan Campaign on COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour, the IPR Department of the Government of Sikkim today carried out activities to formally start the campaign in the State. It may be informed that IPR Department has been designated as the nodal department to spearhead the campaign in coordination with the other departments and media organisations. The Secretary of the IPR Department, Namrata Thapa, administered the campaign pledge to all officers and staff of the department.

Similarly, the Secretary, along with the Director of the IPR Department, Benu Gurung, launched the campaign poster in English and Nepali languages. The Secretary also delivered a video message informing about the formal launch of the campaign and appealed to the people from all walks of life to join hands with the Government in educating and informing on appropriate behaviour to be followed by all in the collective fight against COVID-19. She outlined the three key messages of the campaign � wear masks, follow physical distancing, and maintain hand hygiene. �We should abide by all the set guidelines and learn to live with COVID-19,� she maintained.

It is pertinent to mention that the Sikkim Government has been on a campaign mode since April, educating and orienting people on various aspects of COVID-19. All the line departments and stakeholders have been advocating safety norms stipulated for people from time to time.

The IPR Department will simultaneously run the campaign in the State as per the guidelines prescribed by the Government of India. It will intensify its IEC activities to drive home the key messages of the campaign through all available modes like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, podcast and through interpersonal communication. Emphasis will be laid on reaching out to the rural population.
