Jaitley�s death condoled

ITANAGAR, Aug 24 - Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) today mourned the demise of senior BJP leader and former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and stated with his death, the nation has lost a great visionary, statesman, outstanding parliamentarian, legal luminary, a towering intellectual and an able administrator, who worked selflessly and relentlessly for the good of the nation.

�Jaitley was a brilliant orator, a man of impeccable integrity and a great supporter of democratic values,� he said.

�He has left an indelible mark as the Finance Minister of the country, placing India as the world�s fastest growing economy. We shall always cherish his fond memory,� the Governor said.

�I join the people of Arunachal Pradesh in conveying our sincere and heartfelt condolence to you and members of the bereaved family and pray to Almighty God for eternal peace for the departed soul,� the Governor wrote in a condolence message to Sangeeta Jaitley, Jaitley�s wife.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and said that Jaitley�s passing away was a �great loss� to the country.

�Deeply pained to hear about sad demise of former Union Minister #ArunJaitley Ji. His passing away is a great loss to our country,� Khandu tweeted.

�An eloquent orator, a visionary leader, he had contributed immensely towards building #NewIndia. My deepest condolence to his family & loved ones!�, Khandu added.

Jaitley breathed his last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi today, where he had been admitted on August 9.

Imphal Correspondent adds: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has expressed profound grief at the demise of former Union minister Arun Jaitley. In his condolence message, the Chief Minister said, �On behalf of the State Government and the people of Manipur, I express my profound grief at the demise of Arun Jaitley ji. Words leave me in this moment of sadness.�

He added: �Today, Mother India has lost a great son. A stalwart of the BJP, Arun Jaitley ji distinguished himself with his administrative acumen in the Governments of Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji and Narendra Modi ji. He was a man respected across party lines. He was one of the greatest orators of our times. He was a brilliant strategist, a distinguished lawyer, an eminent intellectual, an outstanding parliamentarian and a great leader.�

He further stated, �It will be truly difficult to fill the void left by his absence. The people of Manipur join me in standing with the family of the great leader and his well-wishers in this hour of grief. I pray that God may shower the bereaved family with the strength to withstand the loss.�

An IANS report from Agartala adds: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb mourned the death of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who passed away following prolonged illness at the AIIMS in New Delhi on Saturday.

�Jaitley was a seasoned and efficient politician and a competent lawyer too,� the Chief Minister said in a condolence message.

Deb, also the president of the Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, said that as the Finance Minister, Jaitley had prepared a new economic road map for the country and worked relentlessly during his tenure as a Union minister.

Jaitley (66) was admitted to the AIIMS on August 9 after he complained of breathlessness.
